Model Engineering is a fascinating hobby open to men and women of all ages. As well as providing pleasure, its main function is to foster an appreciation and continued knowledge of machinery, transport and equipment from the industrial revolution to the present day, and even beyond. This is achieved by recreating in miniature, any kind of machinery or transport item that takes your fancy, be it steam powered or internal combustion or whatever. Experimentation and the development of ideas for the future are also popular aspects of this fascinating hobby.

Model Engineering is a popular leisure-time activity worldwide and that popularity continues to grow at an amazing rate. Model engineers come from all types of backgrounds and occupations. They are generally a very friendly bunch of people, who are always ready to help others, especially newcomers to the hobby. To participate in model engineering you do not need to be a tradesman or have any experience at all - many of the best are self-taught and have very basic equipment. If you wish to become involved in this most satisfying of hobbies, we believe you will find no better vehicle to get you under way than the Australian Model Engineering magazine.

- David Proctor (Managing Editor)

Some of the highlights in the current issue ...

  •  A working replica of Henry Ford’s Quadricycle is a most unusual modelling project - see how one man did it. Perhaps you would like to read about the overhaul of Steam Ranger’s locomotive "Duke of Edinburgh" or see the device a model engineer made for cutting spiral or helical gears. Injectors - we all know they can be troublesome, but not if you follow Kens useful advice and tips on how he has 100% success with them.

  •  Projects for the workshop - make your own inexpensive pillar drill, or how about making a small set of spanners? Want to know more about grinding wheels or the Chaffey pumps. Read about one man's outstanding model of a diesel locomotive. As usual there is lots to choose from in the latest issue, and of course there are our ongoing "Phantom" and "Hurricane" projects. In other words, something for everyone!
